William Shakespeare wasa born on April 26, 1554 and died on April 23, 1616. Shakespeare, a poet and a playwrite, is known as the worlds most famous English writer. He has numerous plays, sonnets, and poems that have been translated and performed more than any other. Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway at the age of 18. Together they had three children, all girls. He retired from Stratford in 1613 where he would die three short years later. People often question his sexuality and his religious beliefs and of som of the works we are told he did were actually written by others.
Even though Shakespeare was respected in his time, it was during the nineteenth century that his reputation scaled to the height that it is today. The Romantics and The Victorians loved his work. And again in the twenttieth century his works were rediscovered by scholars and performers.
Shakespeare is definitelly the epitome of the Renaissance talent. No study of the English Renaissance would be complete without him and his many works.
What about a modern day Renaissance man? Got any ideas?
